Hey there, lovely listeners! Welcome back to Let's Chat Teaching, the podcast where we unravel the mysteries of teaching in the grades five to eight classroom. I'm your host, Nicole Sanders, a former classroom teacher turned online Pro-D course creator. Today, we're diving into the world of life hacks that make our lives as teachers a tad bit easier.

Teaching is a full-time gig, and let's face it, our to-do lists are always growing. Have you ever wished for a staff meeting where they actually take things off our plates? Well, we can dream, right? But in the meantime, let's explore five life hacks that have injected a bit more ease into my teaching journey.

Life hack number one: Meal prepping. Now, I know meal prepping can mean different things to different people, but for me, it's all about batch freezer meals. Picture this: spending one afternoon every two to three months to prepare 24 freezer meals. That's right, 24! Thanks to Pinterest, finding delicious and easy recipes is a breeze. Just choose six, buy the ingredients in bulk, spend a day batching, and voila! You'll have meals that last for months, saving time and money, and reducing food waste.

But if freezer meals aren't your thing, consider a meal kit service like Chef's Plate or HelloFresh. It might be a tad pricier, but the convenience and variety they bring to your table are game-changers.

(This is one of the meals from Chefs Plate I cooked last night, delicious!)

Now, onto life hack number two: The Capsule Work Wardrobe. Ever envied how effortlessly men in the business world dress? Well, ladies, we can do it too! A capsule wardrobe consists of essentials in neutral colors that you can mix and match. Think three work pants, two blazers, three long-sleeve shirts, and so on. Check out Pinterest for inspiration and start simplifying your mornings. You'll look professional, save time, and eliminate the stress of figuring out what to wear each day.

Life hack number three: Cleaning Schedule. But here's the twist—share the load! If you have a partner, divide and conquer. And don't shy away from hiring a cleaner. It's a secret many teachers swear by, and trust me, it's a game-changer. With a cleaning schedule, you can focus on the essentials, and with the help of a cleaner, you'll come home to a pristine sanctuary. It's a small investment for a huge payoff in sanity.

Gift Closet takes the stage as life hack number four. Have you ever been caught off guard by a last-minute birthday invitation? Enter the gift closet, a stash of discounted toys bought during sales. It's a budget-friendly way to always have a thoughtful gift on hand, saving you time, money, and those last-minute shopping stresses.

And finally, life hack number five: Schedule or join a club during the week. It's all too easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of work and parenting. However, we are human beings with interests and passions beyond our professional lives. So, pick a weekday activity that brings joy, whether it's a workout class, a book club, or pottery. It's a commitment to yourself, an investment in personal growth, and a way to maintain a sense of identity beyond work and parenting.

So, there you have it—five life hacks to add a sprinkle of ease to your teaching journey. Try one, try them all, and see which resonates with you the most. Because let's face it, a little more ease in our lives is always a good thing. Join me next week as we delve into five hacks for bringing ease into teaching in the classroom. Until then, stay inspired, and I'll catch you on the flip side! If you're interested in some free activities to use with any story, head over to appletreeresources.com/storyactivities.
